We had a lovely Easter dinner with our friends in our place & to tell them about you & your farm !
(They’ll look for you in the farmer’s market)
In my Christian faith, the Easter’s true story of Son of God who won the victory over sin & evil, is to renew our faith in Him.
Eggs are “LIFE” & bunnies are “BIRTH”, which symbolize the Resurrection & the New Life also given to those who believe in Him—(Who is the Way & the Life)
Although this celebration is secularized & the true meaning is forgotten, I believe it’s importance in rediscovering that the blessings are ‘given’, & that our power is limited.
(We try to control everything & lost our great respect & gratitude for life & nature)
May your letters be the inspiration & the reminder of something greater than ourselves—!
Hahaha - I need to get some new hats. Last year a little boy came up to me and I wasn't wearing my hat, so he got shy and left, because he didn't recognize me without my big hat. :)
Thanks, Sophia, and Happy Ostebrunner to you! There's a Hungarian tradition of (mostly) young men in the village visiting the homes of (mostly) young women and sprinkling them with water on Easter Monday (known as "wet Monday")::
I was a city boy, born and raised in Budapest, where the tradition was refined, and we sprayed the girls with eau de cologne. The girls then reciprocated with a gift of hand-painted eggs, clearly pointing to a pre-Christian fertility ritual. Hope to see you sometime soon in Summerland,
Hello Peter! Thank you for these links. I love the clothes so much. It always makes me happy when I hear of these folk traditions that are being kept alive. Recently I read that that tradition of wassailing the apple trees is making a comeback in rural Britain. I don't know when I'll next get down to Summerland, but if I'm traveling that way I'll be sure to let you know. Love to Dorthea!
Sophia,
Thanks for this entry. I love the pictures and your words make me happy too.
Thank you, Jackie! I hope you had a lovely Easter.
Happy Easter to you & your parents Sophia !
